Waiting for paper obits

I am having trouble getting obit in ProJo as they want it only in a word file.  D*** you, Bill Gates.  The Press Republican accepted my credit card today and it should be in Thursday or Friday.   That also gets it on Legacy.com.  I am working on it.

Long obit for Dad

Arthur W. Butler, Jr. passed away March 15, 2010 at home, with family beside him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Ruth Parmelee and his second wife, Edna Gwinn, his parents, Gertrude Hart and Arthur W. Butler, Sr., his brother Alden Butler and his sister, Eunice Kohl. He is survived by his four children: Bonnie Butler Wilke of Long Beach, CA., Arthur III (Butch) Butler of Buena Vista, CO., Carol Cornell of Cranston, RI, Janet Lawton of Naples, FL, his sister Mary Johnson of S. Kingstown, RI., eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

Art served in the Navy during World War II and was honored with the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Navy Air Medal. Art graduated from Brown University. He was an active lifetime member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, and the JCI Senate, serving as the RI Jaycee president. As a city planner for Cranston, RI, one project he developed and ran was the TransVan program for citizens with disabilities. He was an active member of Edgewood Congregational Church for many years, and wrote and edited the RI Conference newsletter for RI United Church of Christ.

Arthur, born in Cranston, RI, lived there all his life until retiring, when he became a “Sun and Fun specialist”, spending winters in Punta Gorda, FL and summers in Willsboro, NY at Avalon. His children are very proud of the many lives he touched through his activism as a Jaycee, supporter of local theater, member, grant writer, and newsletter editor of various historic societies, Boy Scout leader and church member. The family would like to thank Art’s Jaycee Senate peers who gave so much friendship and support through the years.

A memorial service for Art will be held at Edgewood Congregational Church, on July 24th, 2010 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church at 1788 Broad St. Cranston, RI 02905, the Alpenglow Hospice Foundation at 3200 E. 19thth St. Long Beach, Ca 90755, or the charity of your choice.

Happy, hopeful New Year!

As we calm down from the holidays, it is clear that we want/need a calmer 2010.  Dad is with us.  Both Kit and I have put on weight with all the drama.  With prayers for peace, Bonnie and Kit keep on truckin"

Making it through the Day, Dad in tow!

If today ends without incident we will have had a great week.  Since last Wednesday there have been no inappropriate behaviors. Life is good.  Dad will be pouring through my coffee table books at a fast pace.  I like the slower timing of my life, it is the first time I have been a housewife who did not have to work.

Thank God for my family--this week especially for Carol.   Dad's new 1bath, 1 room suite with smoking area is all set up with smoke and fire detectors, fire extinguishers and a a general new look.  I told my Dad I was raising the rent.    He is a little more responsive than he was at AG, as we are not medicating him so much.   He does smile.

Thanks Mom for helping!
